Warranty Questions, Answered.

UNDERSTANDING COVERAGE

What is the difference between Product Only and Limited Material & Labor?

Product Only provides replacement coating or its cash value at Kool Coats’ option when a manufacturing defect causes a covered leak. Repair labor is not included.  Limited Material & Labor adds approved repair labor and materials, within a total repair allowance. Its updated twelve-year program assigns the first three years to the roofer and KoolCoats’ covered repair service to Years 4–12.

What does Assurance cover that Limited Material & Labor does not?

Limited Material and Labor covers qualifying leaks caused by manufacturing defects, not ordinary aging. Assurance also includes qualifying leaks caused by ordinary wear under normal exposure. Assurance uses a more involved qualification process, including an Approved Warrantable Specification and final manufacturer inspection, with its own coverage limits and repair-cost participation schedule.

Does coverage for repair labor include contractor workmanship?

Not automatically. Repair labor is the work needed to address a leak that qualifies for coverage; workmanship concerns how the original roof system was installed. Limited Material & Labor excludes contractor workmanship, and Assurance is not a general workmanship warranty. The contractor retains responsibility for its installation and applicable workmanship obligations.

Is there a limit on how much Kool Coats pays for repairs?

Yes. Product Only is capped at the original product cost. Limited Material & Labor has a total repair allowance of 2.5 times the warranty fee. Assurance has a project-specific aggregate limit and reduced repair-cost participation after Year 10. Renewable Assurance provides separate allowances for its initial and eight-year renewal terms, each equal to 2.5 times that term’s warranty fee.

COSTS, OWNERSHIP & FUTURE OPTIONS

Why consider Renewable Assurance if I may sell in a few years?

Renewable Assurance provides the full twenty-year installation specification while requiring only the initial twelve-year warranty purchase upfront. That lets you defer purchasing the later warranty years. An approved transfer can preserve the buyer’s extension option; if you keep the building, you can pursue the additional coverage yourself at Year 12, subject to renewal requirements.

Can I extend or renew my warranty?

Renewable Assurance offers a conditional eight-year extension at Year 12, subject to inspection, required corrections, payment, and written issuance. At Year 20, a qualifying roof may receive another ten years after required repairs, a maintenance coat, and separately priced renewal. Extensions are not automatic. Updated Limited Material and Labor ends at Year 12 without extensions or renewals.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY WARRANTY IF I SELL THE BUILDING?

Product Only is not transferable. Limited Material & Labor can transfer with Kool Coats approval and applicable requirements. Assurance and Renewable Assurance each provide for one qualifying transfer during the original term, subject to their requirements, including notice within 60 days. An approved Renewable Assurance transfer preserves the remaining coverage and extension option. It does not restart the warranty clock.

Are inspections and installation included in the warranty fee?

No. Limited Material & Labor prices installation separately and requires no initial manufacturer-inspection fee. Assurance has a separate $2,500 Warranty Qualification Evaluation fee. Renewable Assurance prices inspections and necessary non-covered repairs separately from its warranty fees. Ask the Warranty Department to identify the applicable charges before proceeding.

QUALIFYING YOUR WARRANTY

What maintenance is required to keep my warranty in effect?

Follow the maintenance requirements in your issued warranty. These include keeping drainage clear, addressing damage and non-covered conditions promptly, and providing access for inspection or repair. Assurance and Renewable Assurance also require maintenance records. Before adding equipment, making penetrations, or authorizing roof changes, review your program’s approval requirements. Maintenance failures or unauthorized work can affect coverage.

What should I do if my roof leaks or my original roofer is unavailable?

Notify Kool Coats directly and follow the reporting instructions and deadline in your issued warranty. Provide the required project information and supporting records, including photographs when available. Contact the Warranty Department even if your roofer is unavailable; Kool Coats evaluates coverage under the applicable warranty. A contractor’s absence does not turn an excluded workmanship issue into a covered manufacturing defect.

I’m a contractor. When should I involve Kool Coats?

Contact the Warranty Department before installation to confirm the selected program’s requirements. For Assurance, qualification establishes the Approved Warrantable Specification, which may differ from your preliminary proposal. The evaluation does not itself create warranty coverage: installation, inspection, documentation, required corrections, payment, signatures, and written issuance must also be completed.

DOES MY ROOF NEED AN INSPECTION TO QUALIFY?

Requirements vary by program.  Assurance requires pre-install qualification and a final manufacturer inspection.  Renewable Assurance requires project review and inspections, and has a 60,000-square-foot minimum. Limited Material and Labor does not require an initial manufacturer inspection, but roof suitability, approved specifications, and documented installation still apply. Not every roof qualifies.
